Maggie Shively is an artist currently living and working in Evansville, Indiana, located in the southwestern part of the state on the Ohio River. She spent seven years on the east coast in New York, but came back to the midwest in 2013.
Maggie started her artistic career as an Indiana artist, but she has lived and painted in the mountains of Colorado and by the ocean on Long Island.  While versatile in all mediums, her gallery work is concentrated in representational oil painting.

Maggie developed a strong following in New York during her time there.  She had several solo shows at North Main Gallery (Southampton, NY), as well as participating in group shows at Mark Humphrey Gallery (also Southampton, NY).  Local businesses and private collectors all over the country – and outside of the States as well – have acquired her work.  She became a member of the National Art Club in New York City in 2009, having been sponsored by Will Barnet, a well-known printer maker and National Medal of Arts recipient, who encouraged her to expand her range of followers.

Although Maggie has drawn and painted all of her life, she started painting and marketing her work full time in 1997 when she opened Maggie’s Studio.  Prior to that, she concentrated on graphic design, providing camera-ready artwork for printers and advertisers, some of which she still does.  Her strong drawing skills are evident in her children portraits as well as those of homes and businesses.  Eventually she felt limited by the lack of color in her work so she began to pursue painting.
Well known for her collection of street scenes and barges, Maggie also paints active life portraits (both human and animals), still lifes, nudes and florals. In addition to painting on canvas, she has been commissioned to paint murals and to write and illustrate children’s books.  In 2013 she completed a large outdoor mural for From the Ground Up, a Newburgh, Indiana greenhouse business. (Driving into Newburgh it can’t be missed!) In 2016, a large steamship painting, commission by the owners, was featured in an Architectural Digest article showcasing their Brooklyn home.
Maggie is also well know for her skills at teaching painting and drawing.  She has kickstarted the careers of several painters who have studied with her.  She established  “Brushes and Bottles” painting events, leading participants step by step, recreating paintings by the Masters. She continues to teach private and semi-private art lessons.
