                                      "Maggie"

Maggie Shively is an artist currently living and working in Newburgh, Indiana, located in the southwest part of the state on the Ohio River.  She spent seven years on the east coast in Southampton, New York, but came back to the midwest in 2013.

Maggie started her artistic career as an Indiana artist, but she has lived and painted in the mountains of Colorado and by the ocean on Long Island.  While versatile in all mediums, her gallery work is concentrated in representational oil painting.

Maggie developed a strong following in New York during her time there.  She had several solo shows at North Main Gallery in Southampton, as well as participating in group shows at Mark Humphrey Gallery.  Local businesses and private collectors own her work.  She became a member of the National Art Club in New York City in 2009, having been sponsored by Will Barnet, a well-know printer maker, who encouraged her to join to expand the range of exposure for her work.

Although Maggie has drawn and painted all of her life, she started painting and marketing her work full time in 1997 when she opened Maggie’s Studio.  Prior to that, she concentrated on graphic design, providing camera-ready artwork for printers and advertisers, some of which she still does.  Her strong drawing skills are evident in her children portraits as well as those of homes and businesses.  Eventually she felt limited by the lack of color in her work so she began to pursue painting, resulting in a large body of work.

Well known for her collection of street scenes, Maggie also paints animals, still lifes, nudes, florals and, currently, river barges.  In addition to painting on canvas, she has been commissioned to paint murals.  In 2013 she completed a large outdoor mural for From the Ground Up, a greenhouse business.  Driving into Newburgh, it can't be missed!

Maggie is also well know for her skills at teaching painting and drawing.  She has kickstarted the careers of several painters who have studied with her.  She also conducts "Brushes and Bottles" painting events, a blend of creativity and fun - bring your own beverage(wine is encouraged!) and Maggie will lead you step by step, recreating a painting by one of the Masters.
